Experts believe that with the disease one pregressively loses his sense of short-term memory, then mid-term memory, leaving them with only their long term memory. To us on the outside, it appears as if they are regressing, moving backward in time to earlier periods in their life - perhaps when they were still working, going to school or raising a family.
