The step up area is nice and large. The straps hold the step tighter than i thought it would to the bed frame. My mom has dementia so it took a while for her to learn/get use to walking up and down the step. She seems to have adjusted quite well:)

I was worried about getting a step stool for my mom to get in and out of bed because the ones I have seen looked more dangerous than helpful- small and not that sturdy- but then I saw this one and my fears disappeared!  It is well built, has sturdy handles and the motion light is a great feature. I love the very wide and long step - no chance of missteps!  My mom kept saying she didn't need one of these but now she doesn't know how she did without it- absolutely loves it!
