Be aware that this clock does have to be plugged in; the power adapter and cord are provided. It also takes a couple of batteries for backup, not included.  I am pleased with the feature set and the extent to which it can be customized (brightness, alarm volume and duration, etc.). Once you get the hang of how the menu works, it is easy to configure. However, an elderly person who is not tech-savvy would probably need help setting it up. Regarding price, I have seen what appears to be the same product advertised for much more. I am ordering two more for other rooms of my home.

This digital clock/calendar is wonderful to remind you of the date and time of day.  I just wish the screen were a little bigger because I cannot see the screen from across the room
