How to connect your clock to the internet?
Two options are available.
The Idem clock can be connected to the Internet either by:
1. Connecting the clock to a private or home Wi-Fi network (no subscription required)*.
2. Opting for a monthly ($9/month) or annual ($99/year - save $10) subscription to the mobile connection offered by Idem (The SIM card is already included and installed).
You can choose to opt-in or cancel your subscription at any time. After receiving the clock, you will be prompted to select your connectivity preference from the Idem companion app.
* The Idem clock does not function when connected to a public Wi-Fi network. Public Wi-Fi networks are commonly found in hotels and are identifiable by the requirement for entering a password or room number in a separate window from the device's Wi-Fi settings. Public Wi-Fi networks provide occasional internet access for visitors, but they are not suitable for the use of a connected object like the Idem clock. In this case, we recommend subscribing to the mobile connectivity service offered by Idem.
How to set up the Idem Clock?
- Download the Idem companion app on a phone and/or tablet (available for android and iOS) and create your account.
- Plug the Idem clock into an electrical outlet (and connect the clock to the Wi-Fi (no Wi-Fi set up needed if using the 3G connected clock).
- Link the clock to your Idem companion app by entering the provided activation code.
- Introduce the clock to your loved one
Is it battery operated or does the clock require to be plugged in an outlet?
The Idem clock has a battery life of 6 to 8 hours depending on it’s usage. It requires to be plugged in an outlet for ongoing use.
What languages are supported by the app and the clock?
The information in the App and on the clock can be displayed in English and in French. However, your personalized communications (messages, notes…) can be in any language, including the available languages below...you can even use emojis! As Dementia progresses, the preferred language of the user may change to their native language — even if that wasn’t the case before.
Our Idem Clock now offers a fully bilingual (or multilingual) experience, with support for 13 native languages including English, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Portuguese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Greek, Dutch, German, Filipino, Vietnamese and French — not just in on-screen text, but in spoken reminders and time-of-day cues too.
This includes:
- Time, day, time of day and date displayed in the person’s language
- Reminders and messages read out loud in the same language
How many people can have access to the app and manage / send messages to the calendar clock?
Multiple users (unlimited amount) can be created in order to share and coordinate tasks among caregivers and create a supportive network. One caregiver can video chat at any given time to help prevent overwhelming conversations.
What is the companion App?
The companion App is for family caregivers. It's free, and is available for Apple and Android phones and tablets within the US & Canada Only. Instruction on how to download the App will come your order!
Is there a stand?
Yes! All Idem Clocks come with a built-in stand. You can also enhance the style and functionality of your clock with the optional wood stand. Made of durable black walnut with a premium oil-wax finish, it blends perfectly with any decor. This optional accessory offers optimal viewing and keeps your Idem clock securely in place.
Video Calling on the Idem Clock
Every detail of Video Calling was shaped around one goal: making connection feel safe, familiar, and effortless for your loved one. No new skills are needed, no risk of calling the wrong person, no overwhelming menus, no accidental hang-ups and no new hardware required!
Video Calling Features: - You start the call in the Idem App. No codes, no links, no logins. Just tap the orange box labelled Video Call.
- The Idem Clock gently alerts your loved-one of a video call. They chooses between Answer or Decline: with large, clear buttons. You can choose and adjust the ringtone to their preferences in the Companion app.
- You adjust the video call volume. During the call, you can adjust the clock’s volume directly from your Idem Companion app. Helpful when hearing varies or the room is noisy.
- No accidental hang-ups. If they tap the “End Call” button, the clock asks them to confirm with a gentle pop-up.
